Sustainability

The greeting card industry sells 6.5 billion cards a year in the U.S. alone. Almost all of them end up in a drawer, a recycling bin, or, most often, a landfill. The average card is read once, photographed for the group chat, and then disappears.

We didn't want to make more of that.

The Hidden Footprint of a Paper Card

A single greeting card looks harmless. Multiply it by billions and add the rest of the chain — virgin paper, foil and glitter that make cards non-recyclable, envelopes, ink, plus the trucks and planes moving them around — and "harmless" stops being the right word. Most of that footprint exists to deliver a moment that lasts about thirty seconds before the card goes in a drawer.

Digital, But Not Throwaway

Givingli's cards are digital, but they're not disposable in the way that word usually implies. Every one is illustrated by a working artist — part of our studio of 100+ creators — animated where it should be, and built to feel like something worth saving in your phone forever.

No paper. No envelope. No same-day delivery truck. Just the part that actually matters: the moment someone opens it and feels seen.

Less Waste on the Gift Side, Too

Sustainability isn't only about the card. Unwanted physical gifts are their own pile in the landfill — the wrong size, the duplicate, the thing that gets quietly regifted. Because Givingli gifts are digital and swappable across 300+ brands, the recipient gets something they'll actually use. Fewer misses, less waste, more genuinely useful gifts.

You're Not Trading Down

Here's the reframe: choosing digital isn't choosing the lesser version. The card is more expressive (it can move, it can surprise), it arrives instantly anywhere in the world, and it never gets lost in the mail. Sustainable gifting isn't a constraint. It's the better version of the same idea — the gesture, made smaller in footprint and bigger in feeling.
